***The IthacaMafia MixTape: vol.3***
Gratis from Queens.
Here be the 3rd Mixtape for your listening pleasures. No chatting on this one,
as I really don't have much to say that wouldn't sound cooler (not as lame?)
in writing. The Mixtape this week is a full-on Acoustic Mix. 'Twas quite hard
slimming down the tracklisting as I have many favorites of the acoustic vein,
but I tried to keep with the Mixtape theme and make it fresh as possible. Not
much to hide behind with the Acoustic jaunts, so I find there's always something
more personal about them. Good for the long long weeks at work, the rainy day,
or just the spring stroll. Plug it in, and let it take you away.

1. - "The Blower's Daughter" by Damien Rice
[You'll probably remember this from 'Closer' -- just a fucking stunner of a song. And yes, I'd sing it to Natalie Portman if I could.]
2. - "Overkill" by Men At Work
[Never would have thought Colin Hay could get you with this 80's tune, did you? Take away the saxamaphones & production, and it's even better -- believe it or not.]
3. - "Thirteen" by Elliott Smith
[A cover of a Big Star song, this is one of my favorite tunes of Elliott's -- if only because you hear a whistful love and joy in his voice that many people didn't know he had. A fabulous song about young love.]
4. - "Standard Lines" by Dashboard Confessional
[The kid can wail, and he only needs the acoustic guitar. 100% angst, if ever you are fed up with a gal/guy, this is the one to listen to.]
5. - "Everlong" by Foo Fighters
[Saw them live years ago w/ the Chili Peppers, and they won me over. They definitely know how to rock, and this by far is my favorite song of theirs. A nice acoustic version from ol' KROQ, you wacky LA kids.]
6. - "Life on Mars?" by Seu George
[From the 'Life Aquatic' soundtrack, he does Bowie by himself -- and in Portugese, no less.]
7. - "Ziggy Stardust" by David Bowie
[Excellent acoustic bonus track from the Ziggy anniversary CD. Even as an alien, that Bowie was a sexy dude.]
8. - "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan" by Bob Dylan
[Not so sexy, but I suppose he makes it up with his brains/talent/etc. One of my favorite tracks from the album of the same name.]
9. - "Pink Moon" by Nick Drake
[Another talented bastard lost too soon, this is the track that re-launched interest in him when it was featured in a VW commercial. All three of his albums are excellent. You can't go wrong.]
10. - "Big Iron" by Johnny Cash
[This one's for Haps. Even though he may not listen to it, I couldn't risk not having some Cash on this one -- he'd murder me. Plus, it's a good song.]
11. - "Wonderwall" by Ryan Adams
[Nice version of the Oasis song we all know and love. Another one of those songs that makes you wish you could play the guitar and sing. If you can play this one, I bet you could get mad girls.]
12. - "Another Lonely Day" by Ben Harper
[The man does it all, all sorts of different musical styles. One of the saddest songs you'll find, it's great when your feeling down & will help you to enjoy feeling sad. Although since he's married to Laura Dern, I guess he's probably not sad toooooooo often.]
13. - "You Had Time" by Ani DiFranco
[This was the song that finally sold me on Ani (aside from her being a Buffalo gal). Hands down, a beautiful, devastating song. Says Nick Hornby: "...perhaps the gentlest and most generous-spirited break-up song I know... and I doubt DiFranco will ever write a song quite as piercingly pretty, or as moving."]
14. - "The Wind" by Cat Stevens
[The US may not let him in, but he can fly on my iPod with songs like this anytime.]
15. - "Glory" by Liz Phair
[Yep. One of those women who I fear and find hot at the same time.
16. - "When We Meet Again" by G. Love
[He sings of Booty Calls and Cold Beverages -- but don't let the boy from Philly fool you -- he could balladeer the pants off of you.]
17. - "Staring at the Sun (live)" by U2
[Many a folk will dismiss 'Pop' as a shite album, but it has many excellent tracks, including "Staring at the Sun" -- here in a live acoustic version. Love it when Bono and Edge do their thing.]
18. - "The Shining (live)" by Badly Drawn Boy
[The album version is my favorite song of his. A gentle, beautiful track, with strings and horns -- he recaptures it all here in this live version, just him and a guitar.]
19. - "Soft Serve (live)" by Mike Doughty
[Mike is a self-proclaimed promoter of "Small Rock". Listen to him do an acoustic version of "Soft Serve" and understand.]
20. - "True Love Waits (live)" by Radiohead
[The closer. He may look like an alien, but he can wail. Goodnight, kids.]
